Year in Review at Staplehurst Music Centre

Well, it’s been a busy (academic) year at Staplehurst Music Centre. After Covid gave us 18 months of minimal virtual music lessons and no group or ensemble music at all, we were delighted to re-open the music centre in September, albeit with many Covid restrictions in place. Like other organisations, Covid continued to affect us, with teacher and student absences. However, in the main, we were able to offer a full complement of music lessons again.

We’ve also been delighted to relaunch various group ensembles and group lessons. We now have thriving music foundation group classes for children up to age 8, a small chamber ensemble that produces a beautiful sound, a lively rock group playing a mix of covers and original compositions, and the beginnings of a ukulele group.

Our groups have performed throughout the year at pubs, in private gardens, at the Eco Day in the village church and at the school summer fair. As is traditional, we will mark the end of term on 16 July with a final concert for individual performers and groups, to friends and family. All these performances are a wonderful way for players to grow in confidence and enjoy making music.

We look forward to a new term in September 2022 and wish all musicians and supporters a relaxing and happy summer.
