Staplehurst Music Centre and Sing! are collaborating to offer a fun and free singing group, primarily for young people in Key Stage 3 upwards (from 11 years). The group is running every Saturday in term-time, from October half term to mid-December. Parents and carers are welcome to stay and sing too.
We will be singing a collection of carols and modern pop and rock songs with a festive theme and have several performance opportunities lined up already.
This is a community youth well-being project, and there is no fee for attendance at this time.
We recognise the stresses that many young people face. This age group has been particularly affected by the Covid restrictions, which severely limited their face-to-face interactions at a time when social contact with their peers is essential for their well-being and development. The benefits of singing with a group are widely-recognised. Studies have shown that when people sing, endorphins and oxytocin are released by the brain, which in turn lowers stress and anxiety levels.
Singing in a choir can be even more beneficial as it increases our sense of community and belonging.
The group will run from 11.45am until 12.15pm every Saturday in Staplehurst Primary School. If you would like to book your child a space in the group, please get in touch below or on facebook.
Staplehurst Music Centre also offers many other opportunities for playing music in groups and for individual music lessons.
